MIHRIBAN
by Abdurrahim Karakoc

They have tied my crazy heart to your blonde hair
It is not being untied Oh Mihriban
Do not think that the death is more difficult than the separation
It is not being sensed without seeing Oh Mihriban

[It is not being (cannot be) understood until it is experienced Oh Mihriban]

When it is called “the Beloved”, the pen is falling from the hand
My eyes don’t see and my mind is getting confused
The flame shivering in my lamp is getting cold
The Love is not being written on paper Oh Mihriban

[The Love is not being (cannot be) defined on paper Oh Mihriban]

First “Naz” then the word and then the trick
Beloved one causes the lover to talk
Even if the years and centuries changed
The old tradition is not getting broken Oh Mihriban

[The old tradition cannot be broken Oh Mihriban]

[*] Naz:[/color] In literature “Naz” means Coquetry or Attempting to attract admiration, notice, or love, for the mere gratification of vanity; trifling in love. “Naz” of the Beloved is mentioned here. “Niyaz (supplication)” is done by the servant but “Naz” is done by the Beloved. God making “Naz” to His servant means God creates reasons for His servant to supplicate towards him. The servant shows neediness by his “niyaz (supplication) ” and God makes “naz” by creating needs for his servant. “Niyaz”-“Naz” are like antipode of each other.

There are no medicines for my wound in the hands of the Doctors
Don’t seek its beyond when it is said “Love (Ashq)”
There is an end for every matter
But no limit line is being drawn for the Ashq Oh Mihriban

[But the Ashq cannot have a limit Oh Mihriban]

It is not for a vain that the nightingale is tied to its rose
if you put the snow in the ashes of ashq (Love), it would become ember
I am amazed to the perseverance of my ill fate
Even if I strike it on the stone, it is not getting crushed Oh Mihriban

The meaning of “Love (ashq)” is not fitting in any description
Only the ones who suffer knows this sorrow and affliction
A gordian knot from beginning to end in completion
I couldn’t untie, it is not getting untied Oh Mihriban

[I coudn’t untie it, it cannot be untied Oh Mihriban]

Sarı saçlarına deli gönlümü
Bağlamışlar çözülmüyor Mihriban
Ayrılıktan zor belleme ölümü
Görmeyince sezilmiyor Mihriban

Yâr deyince kalem elden düşüyor
Gözlerim görmüyor aklım şaşıyor
Lambamda titreyen alev üşüyor
Aşk kâğıda yazılmıyor Mihriban

Önce naz sonra söz ve sonra hile
Sevilen seveni düşürür dile
Seneler asırlar değişse bile
Eski töre bozulmuyor Mihriban

Tabiplerde ilâç yoktur yarama
Aşk deyince ötesini arama
Her nesnenin bir bitimi var ama
Aşka hudut çizilmiyor Mihriban

Boşa bağlanmamış bülbül, gülüne
Kar koysan koz olur aşkın külüne
Şaştım kara bahtım tahammülüne
Taşa çalsam ezilmiyor Mihriban

Tarife sığmıyor aşkın anlamı
Ancak çeken bilir bu derdi, gâmı
Bir kördüğüm baştan sona tamamı
Çözemedim çözülmüyor Mihriban.

Omuzumda sevda yükü
Yollarda seni aradım
Beste beste türkü türkü
Tellerde seni aradım

Girdim yesilden sarıya
Sordum ölüye diriye
Çiçegi verdim arıya
Ballarda seni aradım

Ask yalımı girdi can
Gönlüm döndü gülistana
Gece gündüz yana yana
Küllerde seni aradım

Yorulup demedim yeter
Hasretin gözümde tüter
Kerem’den Mecnun’dan beter
Çöllerde seni aradım

Bahçem çiçek bağım gazel
Birlesir ebetle ezel
Ayırmadım çirkin güzel
Kullarda seni aradım

Ulaşmak için rahmete
Katlandım bin bir zahmete
Karışıp söze sohbete
Dillerde seni aradım
