OMAR BIN KHATTAB (R.A) AND CHAPTER AL-HAQQA

Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam had prayed to Allah in Daru’l-Arkam on Monday:

“Oh Allah! Make Islam aziz (victorious) and reinforce it by one of those two men, who is the dearest one to you, Abu Jahl or Omar B.Hattab, ”

Omar B.Hattab (r.a) says that:

Before I’ve become a muslim, I went outside of my home to tease Rasulullah (a.s) and found him. He had surpassed me in arriving at Masjid-i Haram. I arrived too and stood behind him.
Rasulullah (a.s) started to recite the chapter Al-Haqqa.

I admired the eloquence, uniformity, and neatness of the word. I said to my self (from inside): “ I swear, I suppose he is a poet as the Quraishians said perhaps!”
At that moment, Rasulullah recited those verses of that chapter :

“But nay! I swear by all that ye see. And all that ye see not. That this is verily the word of an honoured messenger .It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe!”

I again said to my self:
“Presumably , he is a soothsayer! (He knew what was passing through my mind!).
Rasulullah (a.s) continued to recite those verses (in following meanings):

“Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive. It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name. We assuredly had taken him by the right hand (his strength and power). And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart ! And not one of you could have prevented this!
And lo! it is a warrant unto those who are muttaqi.
And We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it).
But truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers.
But verily it is Truth of assured certainty.
Join the Sabbaha of your Lord by His Name, Al Azim.”

[*] Muttaqi: It is an Arabic term. The term “Taqwa”is hidden in this term. Muttaqi means the one who lives with “taqwa”. The one who guards/protects himself against the things which prevent him from reaching spiritual maturity/perfection (kamalat), corrupt the mind, heart and soul and divert his mind and heart from the remembrance of Allah. He has the fear of being diverted from the “sirat-i mustaqiym”. “Muttaqi”is to be strong (qawiy) and have endurance against the desires of the soul/self (nafs) for the sake of Allah. Muttaqi will avoid the sins and impermissible(haram) things which Allah and Rasul (saws) explained and also things which are unsure.

[*] Joining the Sabbaha of the Lord here is to join the sabbaha of creation at every moment like the spinning-swimming atoms. Join-Hear and Live the Moment! Your Lord who “is al- Azim”. The one who encompass every thing by His force (quwwat).
