ADAM

ADAM - SALAH

….Nabi(1642-1712) [1] was one of those who claimed that there is a serious link between being ‘Adam’ and prayer(salah). In his famous nasihadname [2] called ‘Hayriyye’which he had written for his son Hayrullah, He allocated a separate section for the prayer(salah) in his book and said that:

Sen namaza idesin çünki kıyâm
Elf olursun eyâ mâh-ı temâm

Rakî’ olsan görinür sûret-i dâl
Enbiyâ sırrıdır anla bu makâl

Sâcid olsan görinür halka-i cesîm
Âdem olursun eyâ rûh-ı cesîm

Anla çün kim sana keşf ola bu râz
Âdem olur mı iden terk-i namâz

This approximately says the following:

Oh the son who is like a bright moon! If you stand to prayer in the position of “kiyam(standing up position during the salah)”, you will look like letter ‘Aliph(ا)’.

When you reach to Ruku(bending downward position), letter “Dal” will appear. Know that What I said are the secret of prophets(Sirri-Nabees).

When you reached to Sajda(prostration), circle of the letter “Mim” shows its self, and you oh exalted spirit(oh the INSAN who is the most exalted being,’ashraf-I mahlukat’.), you become “âdam” to the full extent.

Understand what I said, because you have the inherent ability to posses this secret: Could you call anybody leaving the prayer(salah) , “Adam” ?

Let us bring the explanation to these lines :

In Ottoman Alphabet , the term “Adam(insan)” includes three letters, “Aliph, Dal and Mim” respectively.

Aliph(ﺍ) is like a straight line which looks like the stance of the person during the standing position(kiyam) in the prayer.

Dal(د) , is a line with a 90 degree angle in the middle of it, and this is similar to the position of the person in ‘Ruku’ during the prayer.

Mim(مـ) starts with a circular ring then this looks like someone in prostration during the prayer.

In this way, someone during the Salah(prayer) will be writing Adam(ﺍﺪﻢ) with his stances and proves that he is a Adam.
